Seest thou one who turns back, 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Has he knowledge of the unseen, so that he sees? 35 Or, has he not been told of that which is in the Scrolls of Moses 36 And of Ibrahim, who was most obedient? 37 That no soul laden bears the load of another, 38 and that nought shall be accounted unto man but what he is striving for; 39 and that his work is surely seen 40 and that he shall then be fully recompensed, 41 And that to your Lord is your returning; 42 And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep 43 And He who ordains death and life; 44 And that He creates the two mates - the male and female - 45 From a drop of liquid, when it is added? 46 That He hath promised a Second Creation (Raising of the Dead); 47 And that it is He Who enricheth and preserveth property. 48 And that He (Allah) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship); 49 It is He who utterly destroyed the ancient tribes of Ad, 50 and Thamood, sparing no one, 51 And before them, the people of Nooh? Indeed they were more unjust and more rebellious than these! 52 and He overthrew the subverted cities [of Sodom and Gomorrah] 53 So that (ruins unknown) have covered them up. 54 Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The Day of Judgment is drawing nearer. 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 Marvel ye then at this statement, 59 and do you laugh, and do you not weep, 60 While ye amuse yourselves? 61 So prostrate yourselves before God and worship him. ۩ 62
