The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the right. 38
