The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
