The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
