Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
a large throng from the ancients, 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 Verily we are undone. 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
