The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 But not so the worshippers 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. 35

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
