Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
