The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And accepts the best, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
