Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
