The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
