The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
WOE UNTO THOSE who give short measure: 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less. 3 What! Do they not expect that they will be raised? 4 On a grievous day, 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 How will you comprehend what Sijjin is? 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Woe on that Day to those who belied it, 10 Who call the Day of judgement a lie! 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old. 13 Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn. 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 and then they shall enter Hell, 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 NAY, VERILY - the record of the truly virtuous is [set down] in a mode most lofty! 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 On thrones, they shall gaze; 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed. 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 for it is composed of all that is most exalting 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting, 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 though they were not sent to be their keepers -- 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 On high thrones, watching. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do? 36
