Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
