The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
