The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 and purify your robes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
