The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 He looked (at others); 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
