The notables among his people who had refused to believe and who denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and those whom We had endowed with ease and comfort in this life, cried out: "This is no other than a mortal like yourselves who eats what you eat and drinks what you drink. 33 And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers. 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ What you are promised is indeed far-fetched. 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be resurrected. 37 He is nothing but a man who has forged against Allah a lie, we will never believe him' 38 He said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me. 39 He said: In a little while they will most certainly be repenting. 40 A blast struck them for a just cause, and We made them look like withered leaves. God keeps the unjust people away from His mercy. 41 Then We raised up other generations after them, 42 No people can hasten their term, nor can they delay (it). 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 Thereafter We sent Musa and his brother Harun with Our signs and an authority manifest. 45 to Pharaoh and his courtiers, but they behaved insolently, for they were an arrogant people. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves, and their people are obedient to us with humility (and we use them to serve us as we like)." 47 So they denied them and were of those destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book that people might be guided by it. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them shelter on an elevated ground, sequestered, watered by a spring. 50
