(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 In gardens and springs. 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
