AND HAS the story of Abraham's honoured guests ever come within thy ken? 24 They entered to him and said: 'Peace' And he replied: 'Peace, you are people unknown to me' 25 Then he turned quietly to his household, and brought forth a fat [roasted] calf, 26 And placed it near them; he said, "Will you not eat?" 27 He therefore inwardly sensed fear of them; they said, “Do not fear!”; and they gave him the glad tidings of a knowledgeable son. 28 But his wife came forward (laughing) aloud: she smote her forehead and said: "A barren old woman!" 29 They said: "Thus said your Lord. He is indeed all-wise and all-knowing." 30 ۞ (Abraham) said: "And what, O ye Messengers, is your errand (now)?" 31 They said, “We have been sent towards a guilty nation.” 32 That we may send down upon them stones of baked clay. 33 marked out in thy Sustainer's sight for [the punishment of] such as have wasted their own selves." 34 Thus We brought forth from therein who were believers. 35 But We found there but one house of those surrendered (to Allah). 36 And We have left there a sign (i.e. the place of the Dead Sea, well-known in Palestine) for those who fear the painful torment. 37 AND IN [the story of Pharaoh and] Moses, too, [We left the same message: for] when We sent him unto Pharaoh with [Our] manifest authority, 38 But he turned away with his forces and said: A magician or a mad man. 39 We seized him and his army and threw them into the sea. He himself was to be blamed. 40 And also in Ad, when We loosed against them the withering wind 41 that left nothing it came upon, but made it as stuff decayed. 42 And in (the tribe of) Thamud (there is a portent) when it was told them: Take your ease awhile. 43 They transgressed against the command of their Lord. So a blast of sound struck them and they were unable to do anything but stare. 44 And neither stand up nor defend themselves. 45 And before them the nation of Noah, indeed they were a debauched nation. 46
