The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
