The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 So Allah will save them from the evil of that Day and has secured for them radiance and joyfulness, 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and goblets of crystal,- 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
