The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
