Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
