The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
