And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your forefathers! 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 no caring friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
