'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
