Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Dunes (Al-Ahqaaf) before Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the winds which scatter dust, 1 and the burden-bearers 2 which then smoothly speed along, 3 and those that apportion [the gift of life] at [God's] behest! 4 What you are promised is certainly true: 5 and surely the Doom is about to fall! 6 The heavens webbed-with-tracks is witness 7 Indeed, you are in differing speech. 8 and perverted therefrom are some. 9 May the conjecturers perish, 10 who are heedless in the immersion. 11 They ask, “When will be the Day of Judgement?” 12 (It will be) a Day when they will be tried (i.e. burnt) over the Fire! 13 "Taste you your trial (burning)! This is what you used to ask to be hastened!" 14 Surely those who fear God and follow the straight path will be amidst gardens and fresh springs of water, 15 Receiving what is given them by their Lord. They were surely the virtuous before this. 16 They used to sleep but little by night [invoking their Lord (Allah) and praying, with fear and hope]. 17 and asked for forgiveness in the early morning. 18 And in their wealth the beggar and the outcast had due share. 19 And on the earth are signs for the certain [in faith] 20 As also in your own selves: Will ye not then see? 21 And in the heaven is your providence and that which ye are promised; 22 So by the Lord of heaven and earth, it is as true as your speech. 23
