The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 The magicians asked Moses, "Will you throw your staff first or shall we?" 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
