It is He who sends down water from the skies; you drink thereof, and thereof [drink] the plants upon which you pasture your beasts; 10 With which He makes crops grow, and olives, dates and grapes and fruits of every kind for you. In this is a sign for those who think. 11 And He has made the night and the day and the sun and the moon subservient [to His laws, so that they be of use] to you; and all the stars are subservient to His command: in this, behold, there are messages indeed for people who use their reason! 12 And what He has created in the earth of varied hues most surely there is a sign in this for a people who are mindful. 13 And He it is who has made the sea subservient [to His laws,] so that you might eat fresh meat from it, and take from it gems which you may wear. And on that [very sea] one sees ships ploughing through the waves, so that you might [be able to] go forth in quest of some of His bounty, and thus have cause to be grateful [to Him]. 14 He set firm mountains upon the earth lest it should shake with you; and rivers, and roads, in order that you are guided. 15 And landmarks (too), and by the star they find a way. 16 Is the One who can create equal to the one who cannot create anything? Why, then, will you not consider? 17 If you count the favours of God you will not be able to calculate. Assuredly God is forgiving and kind. 18 and God knows all that you keep secret as well as all that you bring into the open. 19 And those whom they call on besides Allah have not created anything while they are themselves created; 20 They are dead, not alive; and they do not know when will the people be raised. 21
