The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
