The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
