Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a high Garden. 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And chosen goblets. 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
