Believers, when you rise to pray wash your faces and your hands as far as the elbow, and wipe your heads and (wash) your feet to the ankle. If you are in a state of impurity, cleanse yourselves. But if you are sick or traveling, or, if when you have just relieved yourselves or had intercourse with women and you cannot find water, touch the clean surface of the earth and rub your hands and faces with it. Allah does not wish to burden you, He seeks only to purify you and to complete His Favor to you in order that you may thank. 6 Remember the favours He bestowed on you, and the covenant He cemented with you, when you said: "We have heard and obey." Have fear of God, for He knows the secrets of your heart. 7 O People who Believe! Firmly establish the commands of Allah, giving testimony with justice and do not let the enmity of anyone tempt you not to do justice; be just; that is nearer to piety and fear Allah; indeed Allah is Well Aware of your deeds. 8 Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness from sins and a great reward. 9 However, the unbelievers who have called Our revelations lies will have hell for their dwelling. 10 O you who have believed, remember the favor of Allah upon you when a people determined to extend their hands [in aggression] against you, but He withheld their hands from you; and fear Allah. And upon Allah let the believers rely. 11
