The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
