I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 Warn the men. 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
