The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Byzantines have been defeated 2 In a near land, and they, after being vanquished, shall overcome, 3 Within a few (up to nine) years time; only for Allah is the command, before and after; and the believers will rejoice on that day. 4 In Allah's help to victory. He helpeth to victory whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 The promise of Allah; Allah does not renege on His promise, but most people do not know. 6 They know an outward part of the present life, but of the Hereafter they are heedless. 7 Do they not think for themselves that God did not create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them without reason and a determined purpose? But many men reject the meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those who committed evil was evil, for they belied the signs of Allah and they were wont to mock at them. 10
