The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
