The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
