The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
