He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
