The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Closer and closer to mankind comes their Reckoning: yet they heed not and they turn away. 1 No mention comes to them anew from their Lord except that they listen to it while they are at play 2 and their hearts are preoccupied with trivial matters. The unjust ones whisper to each other and say, "Is he (Muhammad) more than a mere mortal like you? How can you follow that which you know is only a magic?" 3 Say, "My Lord knows every word spoken in the heavens and on the earth. He is All Hearing, All Knowing." 4 Nay! say they: Medleys of dreams; nay! he has forged it; nay! he is a poet; so let him bring to us a sign as the former (prophets) were sent (with). 5 There did not believe before them any town which We destroyed, will they then believe? 6 Before thee, also, the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration: If ye realise this not, ask of those who possess the Message. 7 And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal [on earth]. 8 Then We made Our promise good to them, so We delivered them and those whom We pleased, and We destroyed the extravagant. 9 We have revealed for you (O men!) a book in which is a Message for you: will ye not then understand? 10
