He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
