Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know. 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
