The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 and the roof uplifted 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 No one can avert it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
