The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 and purify your clothing, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
