And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape; 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together 30 Not so Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 Iblis replied, "I did not want to prostrate before a human being whom You have created out of mud-moulded clay". 33 Said He: "Go forth, then, from this [angelic state]: for, behold, thou art [henceforth] accursed, 34 A curse shall be on you till the Day of Recompense' 35 He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." 36 Answered He: "Verily, so be it: thou shalt be among those who are granted respite 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 Iblis said, "Lord, because you have caused me to go astray, I shall make earthly things attractive to (people) and mislead all of them 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 verily, thou shalt have no power over My creatures - unless it be such as are [already] lost in grievous error and follow thee [of their own will]: 42 And surely Hell is the promised place of them all: 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
