A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
