The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
