He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
