۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No group may advance its appointed promise nor postpone it. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 And there never came an apostle to them but they mocked him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 Even then they would say, “Our sights have been hypnotised – in fact, a magic spell has been cast upon us.” 15
