The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is? 2 (It is a nightly radiant star). 3 No soul is there but hath over it a watcher. 4 So let man observe from what he was created. 5 He is created from a water gushing forth. 6 Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. 7 God has certainly power to bring him back (from the dead). 8 on the Day when consciences are examined, 9 [man] will have no power, and no helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 and the earth, bursting forth with plants! 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 And it is not a frivolity. 14 Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)). 15 and so am I: 16 Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). 17
